Karl Brustad, PE, MBA

Mr. Brustad is a founding Principal of Peterson Brustad Inc. He has more than 28 years of experience in the planning, design, and construction of stormwater, wastewater, and potable water supply projects.

His experience includes groundwater and surface water treatment, storage tanks, pumping stations, pipelines, wells, telemetry, and SCADA systems. He has authored several water and wastewater master plans and is intimately familiar with a variety of modeling applications.

Karl’s entire professional career has been centered around water including over five years working for a water utility. It’s this experience that allowed Karl to manage design consultants and learn first-hand the do’s and don’ts of consulting. In addition, Karl is a licensed Grade IV Water Treatment Plant Operator.

Karl has a B.S. in Civil Engineering from CSU Chico and an M.B.A. from CSU Sacramento.

Karl enjoys spending time with his wife Colette and his children Ivan and Rena. Karl enjoys hiking, hunting (especially archery), fishing (especially with a fly rod), golfing, boating, and remains active in team sports - softball and basketball.

Mr. Hasler is a Project Manager at Peterson Brustad Inc. and has 9 years of experience in the planning, design, and construction of potable water supply projects.

Tim’s planning experience includes the development of comprehensive planning studies for various water systems. His design and construction experience includes wells, groundwater and surface water treatment, storage tanks, pump stations, and pipeline projects.

Tim worked for over five years at a water utility helping to deliver capital improvement projects, and it was there that he developed a strong appreciation for the importance of collaboration with all project internal and external stakeholders. He has a B.S. in Environmental Engineering from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and is a licensed Grade II Water Distribution Operator and Water Treatment Operator.

Tim enjoys spending time with his wife Krista, family, and friends. He enjoys golfing, snowboarding, mountain biking, hiking, weekends in Tahoe, traveling, and exploring new breweries and wineries.

Ms. Smith is Project Manager at Peterson Brustad Inc. She has 9 years of experience in planning, design, and construction of stormwater, recycled water, and potable water supply projects.

Ashley’s planning experience includes water and recycled water master plans, hydraulic modeling, and various transmission main evaluation projects. Ashley’s design/construction experience includes groundwater and surface water treatment, storage tanks, pump stations, and pipeline projects. She is also a licensed Grade II Water Treatment Plant Operator.

Ashley has a B.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of California, Davis.

A strong sense of community is important to Ashley, and she likes to stay involved with various humanitarian organizations such as Soroptimist and Engineers Without Borders. Ashley is also a new mom who enjoys spending her free time with her family and watching her daughter Jordan experience the world around her.

Mr. Peterson is a founding Principal of Peterson Brustad Inc. He specializes in planning, design, and implementation of water projects, and has managed projects of all sizes. He understands public involvement, the environmental process, permitting, financing, right-of-way acquisition, design, and construction of water resources, drinking water, and wastewater projects.

His planning experience includes water supply plans; integrated water resources plans, river restoration, dams, water distribution, storm drains, wastewater master plans, water and wastewater treatment plant siting, water quality improvement projects, bridge hydrology/hydraulic studies, flood control plans, FEMA flood studies, and FEMA & ULDC levee accreditation.

His design experience includes gravity and pressurized pipelines, storm drainage systems, levees, floodwalls, detention basins, river restoration, erosion control, dams, spillways, canals, water tanks, pump stations, and water and wastewater treatment plants.

Dave has a B.S. and an M.S. in Civil Engineering from Montana State University.

Dave retired from his full-time position at PBI in 2020 and remains as Principal emeritus providing part-time support for his clients.
